Something that 2016 taught me was that things don’t always go to plan, and you just need to roll with it.
I had planned to get lots of riding in through December, particularly over my week off for the Christmas/New Year period. This did not happen. I got ill on 29th November – some kind of gastroenteritis thing, and didn’t really get over it until Boxing Day. I lost 10lbs due to barely eating anything and of course that meant I had no energy. It’s taken me a few days to build my energy back up, and eventually felt able to go for a short ride around Sherwood Pines on 27th. I really enjoyed it, and I was surprisingly quick, although my muscles were complaining as soon as there was any kind of an incline! The next day I discovered a reaccurance of a saddle sore, that hasn’t happened since August, so bang went my plans to ride for the rest of the week!
Instead I’ve spent the time working out what I want for 2017, catching up on sleep and chores. Time well spent I feel, as it means I’m going back to work tomorrow feeling rested and organised for the first time in a very long time.
2017 is going to be a year of less pressure, less procrastination, going a bit slower. Hopefully this will mean I get the rest I need, and have more energy to get out and have fun.
